# Autility > Autility is the documentation layer for Europe's existing buildings — a field-first platform that turns what a professional captures on site into a structured, source-traced record that every energy audit, EPC, condition report and retrofit plan can be generated from. Captured in the field, reused everywhere. Autility replaces the clipboard, camera roll and spreadsheet with a structured digital record created the moment someone walks a building. A surveyor photographs an equipment nameplate; the AI reads the plate, pulls the spec, asks them to grade the condition, and pins it to the floor plan — so by the time they're back at the car, the building already exists as structured data. That capture is then connected with the building's existing documents, geometry and live systems into one model an AI can reason over, and reused across compliance reports, energy performance certificates, and retrofit recommendations with cost and payback attached. The industry treats decarbonising buildings as an energy problem. Underneath, it's a data problem: the data needed to plan a retrofit, prove it, and report it to regulators either doesn't exist or exists in a form no system and no AI can use.
